About Us
Since 1919, Hawick Knitwear has embodied the very best of Scottish craftsmanship. Founded by local entrepreneur William Wilson Flockhart in the town of Hawick, our story began in a small flat before expanding into what would become one of Scotland’s most respected knitwear manufacturers.
Although the original company ceased trading in 2016 and was formally dissolved in 2025, the Hawick Knitwear name never lost its meaning. Now under new ownership, Hawick Knitwear returns as a new company but with a familiar name, reviving the heritage, values and craftsmanship of its past. We’re proud to bring that spirit back.
For generations, the Hawick Knitwear name has been synonymous with quality, tradition, and luxury. Through decades of innovation, factory expansions, and international recognition, Hawick Knitwear grew to become a hallmark of Scottish textile excellence - proudly rooted in the Borders and globally admired.
Today, that brand is reborn with the same unwavering values that built its legacy. Every item in our collection is crafted in Hawick, a town renowned as the home of knitwear, by skilled hands, using time-honoured techniques passed down through the decades.
We work exclusively with Grade A cashmere, the finest and most noble of fibres, which is spun and dyed in Scotland using advanced methods that ensure exceptional softness, colour depth, and durability. Our garments are then gently finished in the soft waters of the Scottish Borders, famed for their purity and long associated with premium natural fibre production.
Hawick Knitwear draws on over a century of heritage, and every piece we produce reflects our pride in being 100% Made in Hawick, Scotland – a standard we guarantee.
